This is the latest in the long line of movies coming out in 2013 that are directed by Guillermo del Toro. It's a love story between two people, who are also pilots. The plot takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters called Kaiju have destroyed civilization and left behind devastation everywhere. The movie stars Charlie Hunman, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and many others. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro. The screenplay was written by Travis Beacham. The film is produced by Legendary Pictures with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, the founder of Pacific Rim co-financing the picture. Del Toro has worked under Warner Bros. to distribute this film in North America while having an international deal with Universal Studios. The movie's budget was added up to 125 million dollars, which is nothing in comparison with the monster movies that are released today. Del Toro did not settle for the success of "Pan's Labyrinth" which was considered to be a small-scale movie, but he pursued even bigger monsters to crush all other monsters in Hollywood. Del Toro pitched his vision for this film to Legendary Pictures in 2009, which was met with approval. They finally started production in April 2011 in Toronto, Ontario. It is set for release on July 12th 2013 by Warner Bros. Pictures. Del Toro has stated that he remains open to directing the sequel if everything falls into place and they can find similar success in making this movie relevant and successful again in the future, just like how it used to be when all these movies were relevant and popular with audiences when they were originally released. Set in the future when Earth is under attack by Kaiju (giant monsters), humanity has come up with giant robots (Jaegers) to combat them. Each Jaeger requires two pilots, who share a mental link that allows them to confront the Kaiju together. On November 8th 2013, Pacific Rim was heavily favored to be a hit or even exceed expectations at the box office, due to the fact that it has become the fourth biggest opening day for any film released in summer 2013. The movie fell behind Despicable Me 2 by only 4 million dollars. It beat out the first film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which fell by 1.7 million dollars to score a total of 4.6 million dollars. "Pacific Rim" is the movie with the biggest opening day since "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2" opened on November 15, 2011 at 4:55 pm to 3,768 theaters. The movie has already made $111 million in its first weekend and it is predicted that it will reach around $150 to $200 million in its full theatrical run during summer 2014. cfa1e77820
